Creating a Rubric

Rubric

A rubric is a scoring guide used to evaluate the quality of students’ constructed responses. It contains evaluative criteria, quality definitions for those criteria at particular levels of achievement, and a scoring strategy

Why use Rubrics?

For Students:

  1. Clearly show students how their work will be evaluated and what is expected.

  2. Improve students’ ability to include required elements of an assignment.

  3. Students can use rubrics for self-assessment.

For Educators

  1. Increase objectivity and reduce subjectivity.

  2. Reduce grading time.
  3. Facilitate peer-review: Rubrics set evaluation standards, enabling students to provide peer assessments.

  1. Download this sample essay and rubric here
    alternatively, the pdf is here.

  2. Give grades and points for each criterium

  3. Sum up points

  4. Discuss: Both Bing and Bard gave 100 points. Is that correct?

Have you checked whether the references were fake?

Most of them are. one is a slide presentation and not a paper.
Many of the links by Bard lead nowhere.

      How to create a rubric

      1. Define your criteria
        • E.g.: Problem statement and motivation, methodology and approach, discussion and conclusions, Originality, Credibility and evidence, quality of references

      2. Prompt your Chatbot (Bing, ChatGPT, Bard):
create a rubric with three grades: outstanding (20 points), approved (10), not approved (0). The criteria are: Problem statement and motivation, methodology and approach, discussion and conclusions, Originality, Credibility and evidence. Show as table.

      3. Request improvements from your chatbot,
e.g., "Drop data from criterium credibility."
